HERE’S WHY YOU SHOULD SMEAR MUSTARD ON YOUR FACE. IT WORKS WONDERS!
The most commonly used mustard in the United States – and tied with Dijon in Canada – is American mustard sold as “yellow mustard” (although most prepared mustards are yellow) and commonly referred to as just “mustard”. Mustard can be just the right thing to spice up hot dogs, sausages, and hamburgers.
But did you know that it can also be used in a variety of very beneficial ways that have nothing to do with eating?
Mustard is made from the seeds of the mustard plant and can be spicy or sweet, depending on how it’s prepared. These days people all over the world enjoy it as a condiment. But mustard is actually a lot more than that. Read on to find out some very interesting alternative uses for this savory yellow paste…
1. Relieve chest congestion
The spice in mustard makes it perfect for loosening up the phlegm that can build up in your chest when you have a cold. Simply apply some to your chest and enjoy the warmth.
2. Relax muscles
Went a bit too hard at the gym the other day and now your muscles are aching? Just rub some mustard on them and the warmth will help to relax them. This will also relieve the pain.
If your hair is dry and you’re starting to get split ends, you can use mustard as a natural conditioner. After washing your hair apply some mustard and let it sit for at least eight hours (try doing this overnight by wearing a bathing cap to bed). In the morning you can simply wash the mustard out and you’ll notice that your hair feels much healthier.
4. Facial mask
Mild mustard is perfect as a skin cream for tightening up your skin and getting rid of small wrinkles. Leave the mustard mask on your face for five minutes, making sure to keep it well away from your eyes when putting it on.
5. Soothe burns
If you burn yourself, apply some mustard. This actually relieves the burning sensation even though you’d think that the spiciness would make it worse.
6. Relieve a sore throat
Your throat is sore and you’re sucking on lozenges but nothing seems to help? Then why not try some mustard? Mix one tablespoon of mustard with some lemon juice, a tablespoon of honey, and teaspoon of salt. Put the mix in a pot with some water and bring it to a boil. Now let it cool. Gargling with this concoction can help to cure that sore throat in the blink of an eye.
7. Neutralize strong odors
It goes against intuition, but it’s actually true. Mustard can help to get rid of unpleasant smells from containers, bottles etc. Simply put some mustard seeds in the bottle or container with the offensive smell and add some water. Now swish it around a few times and rinse it out. The smell will be history.
8. Foot bath
Add some mustard to a bucket of warm water and enjoy a relaxing foot bath. Pain caused by too much walking or uncomfortable shoes will disappear. Or maybe you’re feeling pain in your entire body? Then simply add 2/3 of a cup of mustard to a full bathtub and ease on in. Enjoy a good soak for at least 15 minutes and you’ll feel your pain melt away.
So the next time you’re in the grocery store it might be a good idea to grab a few extra bottles of mustard. As you can see, it ain’t just for hot dogs! Why spend a ton of money on specialty remedies when the perfect cure is right there in the fridge?
